Aquathon and Triathlon Success for Harriers
A beautifully clear and bright late April morning greeted Dervla Moore and Maria Kavanagh-Hoy as they made their way to Blackpool for the North West Clubs and Schools Trawlerman Aquathon (a pool swim followed by a run). Maria had done the same event last year so was fully conversant with what needed to be done. The pool swim (of 200m) was swam around marker buoys placed at each end of the pool and this meant no push off from the pool wall even at the start and negotiating tight turns around the marker buoys.
Dervla swam strongly and was out of the water first in her heat, but Maria was only a matter of seconds behind. A quick transition and both headed off onto the 2 lap run course. Not long into run Maria edged past Dervla and opened up a lead of a few seconds. Dervla tried as best she could to close the gap but ultimately Maria triumphed. In doing so Maria placed first in her age group and Dervla was second, so good day all round for them both.
At the Saddleworth Sprint Triathlon Harrier twins Lewis and Philip Hinchcliffe were 4th and 6th, with Philip recording the fastest run leg of the day and Lewis the second fastest only three seconds slower, both nearly a minute quicker than the next fastest competitor on the run leg.
