New Vice Captains Appointed
Following approval from the committee on Monday 7th September, vice captains have been appointed to support the work of Men’s Captain Richard Stirzaker and Women’s Captain Jill Barton.
The Men’s Vice Captain will be Jon Dearnley-Lane. Jon has been a member of Rochdale Harriers for more than a decade, he as strong interest in training and performance and enjoys track and road running, plus the odd trail race.
04/11/2020: Due to increased work commitments, Jon has decided to step down from the role of Vice Captain. Gra Grinrod was nominated as a replacement and has accepted the position. Gra is a high performing athlete, an exile from Triathlon, with an interest in training and performance and a professional interest in nutrition.
The Ladies Vice Captain will be Steph Harrison. A member of the club for seven years, Steph races on the road, but through the club has developed a love of fell running in recent years.
Upon his appointment Jon said “I am pleased to be given the opportunity to play a more active role in the clubs future. Recently, the club has made inroads to be more group-focused, organising sessions and weekly long runs, which has enabled runners to mix and participate together. For me this is the essence of a club. Going forward, my role is simply to assist Richard and Jeff (track coach). My aim is to make regular contact with all the senior men, enquiring about such things as form, any injuries, their short-term goals and also their views on what they want from the club in terms of training sessions. This will hopefully have a positive effect in terms of the numbers for weekly training sessions and race participation.”
Steph stated “I am so pleased and excited to take on the role of vice captain for the Rochdale Harriers ladies! To be an extra point of contact for all our ladies and to welcome new ladies to the club. It is fantastic to have a deeper involvement in the club. I am delighted to be able help Jill and play an active part in the future of Rochdale Harriers.”
Chairman, Nick Barton said “as a former Captain myself, I know what a big job it is, I am delighted that Jon and Steph have agreed to support Richard and Jill and help the club develop. I have known both of them for a number of years and I am very happy that they can offer a lot to the club”.
