Strong Performances at Track Time Trial

Rochdale Harriers in partnership with What’s My Time Results put on a low key 5k and 3k track time trial this morning at our Kingsway Park Arena training facility. There were a number of impressive performances from Rochdale Harriers athletes.
In the the 3k, 10 year old Agatha Wragg posted a superb time of 13:50. The sub-20 minute 5k event, included four Rochdale athletes running as a pack for much of the time, aiming for sub-17.30 times, With Chris Merchant (V45) pulling away to cross the line first in 17.04, a strong run from Harry Peacocke (U15) gave him a time of 17.12, Men’s Captain Richard Stirzaker ran 17.16 and Danny Bennett (V50) ran 17.21.
Stan Clough (U15) made an impressive debut at the distance with a time of 19.08 and Anjum Ahmed recorded 19.22. Matt Jones recorded a time of 21.11 and Dan Merlo kicked off his training for Manchester Marathon with a time of 23.25.
With consideration of Covid restrictions, the event was kept deliberately small, but we hope for this to be a regular event (probably quarterly) to allow athletes to test their fitness on a fast course. A small number of guest runners from Rochdale Triathlon Club took part and in future we hope that to see participation from a number of local clubs. Thanks to Jeff McCarthy for organising the event.
