Rochdale 10K 2023 – Race Report
20th July 2023
(0) Leave a commentOn Tuesday night of this week the 3rd race for 2023 organised by Harriers took place. The Harriers 10k Road Race, starting and finishing at Springfield Park. It heads down Bolton Road, up Manchester Road and onto Roch Valley Way, before turning left along Bury and Rochdale Old Road. This stretch (depending upon how fit you are), either gives runners a rest after the climb up Roch Valley Way, or get in a fast pace to gain position, before heading down Queens Road and the subsequent climb up to Heywood Road, before heading back to the park along Bolton Road, finishing by the pond.
A total of 135 runners took part, with 10 Harriers competing, (sadly with all the local races, most Harriers are called upon to either marshal or help at the registration or finish). Pride of place must go to Danny Bennett (MV50) finishing in 8th position with a time of 35m 9s and also winning his age category. Next home was Kevin Holland (MV40) in 40m 7s (22nd), third Harrier was Paul Garside (MV35) in 42m 39s (32nd).
Up next was Bruno Rolinha (MSenior) 43m 28s (36th), followed by Garreth Chambers (MV35) 43m 41s (38th). A big well done goes to Ian Aitchison (MV65) who was next in 47m 26s (49th), a superb run by Ian for his age category, which unsurprisingly he won. Lee Meadowcroft (MV40) ran in 48m 27s (52nd), followed by Gary Marshall (MV35) in 51m 39s (69th).
An excellent run by Anna Blomfield (FV60) saw her finish in 51m 57s (71st), winning her age category. Finally Karl Cuncliffe (MV40) finished in 54m 22s (86th).

The next race organised by Rochdale Harriers is the Hades Hill Fell race on Thursday evening September 7th. Starting from the Red Lion pub in Whitworth Square. On Sunday October 8th it is The Williams BMW Rochdale Half Marathon, 10k and Fun Run, so get training. For more details of all our races visit the Rochdale Harriers website rochdaleharriers.org.uk
