Harriers Race in Cheshire and Skiathos

27th May 2026
Juliet and Danny at the Mid-Cheshire 5K

The weekend of 23/24 May 2026 saw no road or fell championship races, so it gave Rochdale’s Harriers chance to either catch up on training or enjoy a race of their choice. Friday saw two of our Harriers running in the Mid-Cheshire 5K (Nr Frodsham). Billed as one of the fastest 5k’s in the UK, the route attracts over 900 athletes, including the running elite posting extraordinarily fast finishing times. The first Rochdale Harrier to finish was Danny Bennett (V55), in a time of 17m, 03s, finishing 3rd in the MV55 age category. Juliet Smith (FV50), ran a 20m, 09s time and finished 2nd in her age category. Two excellent results for the Harriers.

Sunday saw another two Harriers on the roads running in the Cheshire 10K, a county which is proving to be popular with Harriers hunting fast times. Starting and finishing at The Cheshire County Showground, it heads out to Pickmere before returning to the finish. Corina Haynes (FV60) was the first Rochdale Harrier to finish, in a time of 53m, 38s. Following Corina was Sean Farnworth (MV60) with a time of 54m, 51s.

Pete at the Skiathos Trail Race

Finally, overseas adventure no 6, saw Pete Butterworth running in the Skiathos Trail Race on Sunday. The race was 24km in length, consisting of a mixture of trail, gravel and road, a circular route around half of the island. Pete achieved a very respectable position of 17th, in a time of 3hrs, 28m, in temperatures in the low to mid 20’s.
