Harriers Sizzle at Sale, 3rd July 2026

8th July 2026

After the excitement of the last two weekends, involving the Harriers in two big events, normal racing service was resumed. Friday 3rd July 2026 saw the second in the series of four Sale Sizzler races, with 17 Harriers making their way to Wythenshawe Park, to run in the 5K race around the park. The Sale Sizzler series is also a counter towards the Harriers Road Race Championship, though only the best one counts towards the RRC even if all four are run.

First Harrier to finish was the ever-dependable Danny Bennett (MV55), in a time of 17m, 04s, in 17th place. Danny also won his age category, so congratulations to him on his achievement. Second Harrier home in 76th place was Harry Clayton (MSEN), in a time of 17m, 32s. Next in 87th place was James Jordan (MV40), in a time of 17m, 42s. Finally, Liam Poole (MSEN), ran the course in 18m, 29s.

Only two Harriers ladies made the trip down the M60, Isabel Mitchell (FSEN), finished 231st in 20m, 37s, not far behind was Louise Mayall (FV35), finishing 285th in 22m, 2s. The full results for those entered under the Club name were as follows:

One lone Harrier  made the journey north up the M6 to the Buttermere Valley, to run in the Buttermere “Short Horseshoe” fell race. A challenging race of 13 miles (20.8km) in length, with 4,980ft (1518 metres) of climb. Starting at Loweswater, it then gets tougher heading over Whiteside, Hopegill Head and Grasmoor, finishing with a descent of Melbreak to the finish. Dermot was the sole Harrier to compete, finishing 30th with a time of 3hrs, 32m and coming 2nd in his age category.

Meanwhile, Juliet Smith travelled North to compete in Great North 10K Run in Newcastle. Juliet was delighted to post 42m, 27s and finish third in the FV50 Category. This result should secure Juliet a place in the FV50 category of a future England Age Group Masters competition. So well done to Juliet.

Finally, following on from the Harriers record setting run of the GM Ringway, the Club is hoping to raise a total of £1000 for Springhill Hospice in Rochdale. A big round of applause for their achievement, certainly well worth the effort from the runners and many thanks to their sponsors.
